Jane Wilson

paintings from my shed

The map I have chosen to paint on dates from 1924 and is a rather lovely Road and Railway map of London, I love the style of the cartography.
The original map is very small and in excellent condition so I didn’t want to paint on it; I think pristine antique maps should stay pristine; the challenge for me is to take the damaged, fragile, unloved pieces of cartography and turn them into a contemporary artwork. So for this painting I scanned the map and printed it out on 300gm 100% cotton archival paper. This was then sealed with matt medium, prepared with gesso and then painted on. My strange humour pairs flying birds with alternative suggestions for transport!
Professionally framed in a lovely black wooden frame and available from Wills Art Warehouse
